Emergency Management Training

Description

The course will lead the participants through the steps of designing, conducting and evaluating emergency management exercises. The course will focus on how to use the exercise to realistically test community preparedness and plans while ensuring gaps identified are addressed in the after action planning.

Target Audience

  • Members of emergency management and health/safety program committees;
  • Emergency Management Managers, Coordinators, Administrators and Responders;
  • Personnel responsible for developing, maintaining and implementing emergency management or response within their organization (for example: Emergency Services, Private and Public Sectors, Indigenous, Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations, etc.); and
  • Incident Commanders, Operations, Planning and Logistics Section Chiefs.

Certification

Examination requiring 75% for award of Certificate of Completion in EM 125 and EM 225 with Emergency Management Ontario.

Description

This course provides participants to implement the Incident Management System (IMS) and perform IMS functions, within an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)

IMS-200 Basic Incident Management System Course

Description

This comprehensive course assists individuals who are currently or aspire to fulfill the function position as an Emergency Manager. The course will assist with defining the role and origins of emergency management, including understanding your role while identifying major responsibilities of an emergency manager. The course will look at the administrative aspects of emergency management and response to include:

  • Mitigation examines vulnerability assessment and mitigation tools
  • Preparedness focuses on emergency operations plans,
  • Response discusses Emergency Operations Centres, handling the media, and
    assessing damage,
  • Recovery discusses types of assistance and considerations for recovery, and
  • Managing the program which will offer assistance with staffing, budgetary, and
    training issues for emergency management.

  • Emergency Management Managers, Coordinators, Administrators and Responders; and
  • Personnel responsible for developing, maintaining and implementing emergency

Description

This course examines the ongoing changing hazards of the 21st century and explores various approaches to disaster risk management. The course consists of an in-depth exploration of hazard, vulnerability and resilience as well as analytic review of management frameworks that structure the assessment of hazards and their impacts on society.

Participants will learn industry best practices for identifying hazards and understanding their specific risks they pose to different communities or organizations. Each participant will work on a final project specific to their own community.

Description

This course will provide emergency management professionals with knowledge on the best practices of note taking during situations.

Description

This course provides an overview of emergency management in Ontario including the systems and processes for preventing, mitigating, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies and disasters. You will learn about the key provisions of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. You will also have the opportunity to identify the roles and responsibilities of various levels of government and other key organizations involved in emergency management.

  • Personnel responsible for developing, maintaining and implementing emergency

Firefighting Training

Description

This program allows departments to demonstrate that their firefighters possess the firefighting skills they need, and align with industry best practices. The course provides participants with credits toward NFPA 1001 Firefighter I for subjects completed and evaluated. Subjects include:

  • Firefighter Safety & Survival
  • Personal Protection
  • Equipment & Self Contained Breathing Apparatus
  • Rope and Knots
  • Ladders
  • Ventilation
  • Water Supplies
  • Fire Behaviour
  • Forcible Entry
  • Fire Suppression for Class A Fires & Vehicle Fires

Members of a community fire department

Certification

Examination requiring 75% for award of Certificate of Completion.
Participants will receive credits towards NFPA 1001, Level 1 and HazMat Awareness tests.

Description

Students will gain knowledge and skills to deliver sound public education to their communities. Students will explore the myths and realities of fire, human behaviour during fire emergencies and strategies to effectively reach a variety of audiences. Methods of delivering fire and life safety education, selecting educational materials, working with the media and evaluating program success will also be covered.

Target Audience

Life Safety Educators and Ambassadors within a community or organization.

Certification

Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a certificate with ProBoard and IFSAC seals for NFPA 1035 Professional Qualifications for Public Fire and Life Safety Educator Level I.

Description

This program allows departments to demonstrate that their Fire Officers possess the skills they need, and align with industry best practices. This program provides participants with NFPA 1021 credentials in blocks from Officer 1, 2 3 and 4. Subjects in the program focus on;

  • Human Resource Management

  • Fire Service Administration
  • Fire Service Leadership

Target Audience

Officer members of a community fire department.

Certification

Examination requiring 75% for Certificate of Completion.
Participants will receive credits towards NFPA 1021, Level 1-4 and are eligible to write exams.

Exterior Firefighter Operations Program

Medical Training

Description

Comprehensive two-day course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. Course meets legislation requirements
for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. Course content includes;

  • The Red Cross
  • Preparing to respond
  • The EMS system
  • Check, Call, Care
  • Airway emergencies
  • Breathing and Circulation emergencies
  • First aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Wound care
  • Head and spine injuries
  • Bone, muscle and joint injuries

Specialty Courses

Description

This course provides a solid understanding of Canada’s ground SAR system and how to use different SAR assets effectively for a SAR mission. There is training on Navigation, Radio Operations, Maps, Night Navigation, Global Positioning Systems, Lost Person Behaviour, Search Patterns that will prepare the students for a search and rescue deployment.

  • Emergency First Responders

Certification

Graduating students receive a certificate of completion SAR-1 Basic Searcher Canada Course.

Description

This course prepares the student to lead and manage various disaster and emergency management projects by applying project management practices, principles, processes, tools and techniques to their work. Project managers must learn to work with the project team and other stakeholders to determine and apply best practices that will lead the project to overall success.

By applying the appropriate combination of processes, inputs, tools, techniques, outputs and life cycle phases, students will learn the necessary skills to successful manage complex disaster and emergency projects within prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery phases.

Description

This course prepares participants for leading all emergency evacuation hosting aspects. This course is designed to walk students through every phase of hosting, inclusive of preparing and establish partnerships, developing the team, receiving evacuees and managing registration, daily operations, dealing with unique needs, documentation and financial management and response close out. At the end of the course, participants will leave with an ability to establish a host team within their organization or to to assist in other hosting operations already established.

Description

This course provides a solid understanding of Canada’s ground SAR system and the effective deployment at an incident where SAR assets are deployed. There is training on the Incident Command System, Search Theory, Search Tactics, Lost Person Behaviour, Leadership and Specialized Field Resources that are being deployed for ground SAR missions.
